8 examples of wasteful spending by Governments + Local Councils
More efficiency and trimming the fat = better for the population
NB - I’ll be doing a lot of podcast recordings on Thursday 19th + Friday 20th Septmeber. These podcasts will be released week commencing Monday 23rd September. The new weekly newsletter will be with you on Friday 20th September at some point late in the evening (UK time).
The FOMC slashed rates by 50bps on Wednesday 18th September and the Bank of England held rates on Thursday 19th September. These will also be covered in more detail in tomorrows newsletter and the podcasts.
Wasteful finance
Governments and local authorities are way too bloated at the moment. There are a number of civil servants and Government departments that are utterly useless and add no value to society.
There are a multitude of ways that your government and/or your local council are probably wasting your/their income.
You might be amazed to know what your bills/taxes are actually funding.
Here are a set of articles that highlight the absurdity of some of the expenses that UK bill payers/taxpayers have at the moment. It could be unecessary Government positions, poor spending by local councils or just complete and utter general stupidity.
Welcome to Broken Britain.
8 bonkers examples are:
The Scottish Road Works Commissioner, aptly nicknamed ‘the traffic cone tsar’ – who aims to ‘improve the planning, co-ordination and quality of road works’ and earned £80,000-£85,000 in 2022-23.
The Poverty and Inequality Commission. Established in 2019 with a budget of £366,105 and ‘staff costs’ of £262,484.
Energy companies subsidising ‘green initiatives’ to the tune of £50 million
£17.5 million accidentally paid out in extra benefits to people in the UK, who were then allowed to keep the excess funds
Wasting BILLIONS on High Speed 2 (HS2) which will be a white elephant of a railway system
£4 million given to Italy to tackle the ‘root causes’ of illegal migration, something a 3 year old could probably diagnose at the moment for free!
£40 million spent to date in Wales to reduce 30 mile per hour zones down to 20 mile per hour zones. So successful that 500,000 Welsh people have signed a petition against it!

Most of these items are either funded by bill paying people, government subsidies and/or the printing of currency. It is a lose lose situation for people paying bills.
If you are paying bills then your funds are not being allocated efficiently, as outlined in the various articles above. If it is government subsidies and/or the printing of currency that is funding various initiatives, then this will result in inflation. The ultimate tax.
We should always want our funds to be used as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Unfortunately, this is just not the case at the moment.
The sheer stupidity of both local councils and your Government should not be underestimated!
