First of all, a Happy Easter for those that celebrate it. Have a great weekend. It is a family tradition here to fast on Good Friday, so just water for me today! The Weekly Open will be out at the start of Asian trading on Sunday.

Back to the markets and Gold really shined this week. Doing EXACTLY what it should be doing. Silver could be showing signs of life but let’s not necessarily bank on that in the short term.

Summary of the markets this week

  • Gold = UP 2.78% ($90.05) - new ATH Weekly Close on 17/04 & Daily on 16/04/2025

  • Silver = UP 0.82% ($0.26)

  • Platinum = UP 2.52% ($23.79)

  • Brent Crude = UP 4.50% ($2.92)

  • Dow Jones = DOWN 2.54% (1,024.60 points)

  • NASDAQ = DOWN 2.00% (374.30 points)

  • S&P 500 = DOWN 1.27% (68.20 points)

The Golden Era - The British Empire & Sound Money between 1816 - 1914

Today’s post is going to dive into the history of Britain and specifically look at the Golden Era between 1816 - 1914. This was a time when the sun never set on the British Empire and, because of sound monetary policy, inflation was relatively non-existent.

Onto the markets and we will start with the metals.

GOLD

Gold reached a new ATH on the Weekly Close at $3,327.70 (UP $90 & 2.78%)

Gold had a new ATH on the Daily close on Wednesday 16th April at $3,343.35

Gold shows no signs of slowing down. This is seemingly the narrative out there at the moment. This gets my Contrarian whiskers twitching.

The RSI remains very strong and at overbought levels (which can be normal behaviour in a bull market) and the fact that mainstream media (MSM) is jumping on board with delight, this just makes me wonder how much higher can Gold actually go in the short term? We are in unchartered waters at present but when everyone gets so bullish then this is normally the time that the rug can get pulled out from underneath people.

SILVER

Silver finished the week on a green candle, albeit with a modest 26 cents increase on the week. It is more of an industrial metal than Gold, so will react more sensitively to the multitude of economic news out there in the ether.

Gold normally leads the way and Silver can be quite explosive. It would not surprise me to see Silver very briefly explode the upside before entering either some sort of sideways pattern or a slow move downwards.

Like Gold, the future is very bright for Silver! The current Gold to Silver ratio sits at over 100. This is very rare and screams that Silver is undervalued in comparison to Gold. I recently wrote about the GSR and you can read that here.

2 new charts in the chart deck this week and we will start with a reminder for new subscribers of my overall thesis, followed by the Dow Jones, NASDAQ & S&P 500…..
